Virtual visitors are accompanied by a spoken commentary describing the background and features of each area of the ship together with sound effects appropriate to that location. This unique approach leads users into what will be a strange and unfamiliar environment for many and encourages them to thoroughly explore it.

To aid them in their exploration and ensure that they maintain a sense of place, a large map is provided in the lower half of the screen, which can show separately the various decks as well as a cross-section view. The map is used to track visitor's progress and allow them to jump from one area to another if desired.

The panorama points are carefully chosen to enable users to easily identify and click on people and objects of interest, such as fittings, armament and equipment. A description appears or a video window then opens Ð of which there are over 70 Ð and a movie plays giving details of the selected item. If it was member of the crew, users will hear them describe their job and experiences in their own words, sometimes very amusingly.

A search facility allows users to look up items of interest (of which there are over 4,000 listed) in an alphabetical scrolling list, click on one and be taken directly to its location.

A comprehensive Help facility identifies all the features and controls of the programme and describes them in audio so that it is unnecessary to search through a manual to find out how a facility works.

The disc also features exciting footage of naval weapons in action including helicopter armaments, Sea Dart missiles, the 4.5Ó Naval gun and lighter armaments.
