Malaysia bridges mainland and peninsular Southeast Asia and is divided into two parts separated by more than 400 miles of the South China Sea. Most of Malaysia occupies the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, south of Thailand - and is formerly known as Malaya, or Peninsular or West Malaysia. ( East Malaysia occupies the northern portion of the island of Borneo.) Malaya gained independence from the British in 1957 and in 1963 Singapore, Sabah, and Sarawak joined Malaya to form the Federation of Malaysia, although Singapore withdrew from the federation in 1965.
As a nation, Malaysia boasts a diversified population of 18 million people, composed of Malays, Chinese, and, Indians. Throughout the CD-ROM, the viewer will hear the sounds, see videos, and gaze on photographs of Malaysia.
Wau kite - Malay pastime
Imagine for a moment "clicking" through the section entitled "Traditional Musical Instruments of Kelantan." Read about such instruments as the "rebana" and the "kertok."
No amount of description can paint an
image of the kertok in the reader's mind - the sound that comes from a kertok, or the motion involved in playing this small coconut drum. - but with Click Malaysia you not only read--you see the photos...then suddenly the image begins to move, you hear the penetrating sounds. The man on the screen is actually playing the kertok!
Hear the kertok now!
Playing the kertok
The section on the Rainforest features Taman Negara's Kelantan side Kuala
Koh, with the sounds of the rainforest, video, and still photos of the flora
and fauna, the Orang Asli, living in and outside the park. You can even take a 4WD trip through the rainforest in line with the government ecotourism programs.
Hear the rainforest now!
