| Expandable Database |
Botanica Plus offers users the ability to add their own entries to the database,
complete with plant description and attributes.
Users can also assign a photo and caption to their plant entries.
Added plant entries are incorporated into all searches, and can even be shared with other Botanica Plus users !

Collections
|
To add a plant to the database, you must firstly create a 'collection' to store it within. Collections allow you to store plants within the database in manageable 'containers'. Collections are backed up (and restored) individually and can be shared with other Botanica Plus users.

Add plant names, description and photo
|
Add a plant's genus and species names, together with a common name. You can select the photo field and paste a photo from the clipboard, or assign it by selecting a file. Photos added should be in PICT format at 72 dpi.

Assign a plant's attributes for searches
|
To help with searches, you can assign various attributes to a plant. Simply click once on the desired attribute (or type in the values).

Powerful Three-Way Searching
|
|
With such a large database to search, Botanica Plus makes it easy to find a manageable shortlist of plants which meet your needs. There are three separate, but related search functions:

Name Index
|
You can alphabetically list all the plants in the database, either by family name, botanic name or common name.
You can then either select a plant to view from this list or use the results of this name search to narrow the list down further with either the attribute or keyword search.
|
|
|
Attribute search
|
Often you're after a plant which meets certain growing or display habits. Botanica Plus allows you to search for attributes such as plant type, growing soil, flowering color, flowering and propagating seasons, fragrance, growing height and spread, garden use, hardiness zones, position and non-poisonous plants.
Clicking on the 'search in result list' check box limits your search to the current result list, allowing you to quickly narrow searches.

Keyword search
|
Botanica Plus allows you to easily search all the plant entries for a word or phrase. Simply type in the term you wish to find, select the condition (either 'begins with' or 'contains', select the area to search, and click 'Search Now'.
This allows you to identify those entries containing specific information, such as the name of a continent, a family name, or other information too detailed to include in an attribute search.

You can also limit your search to the current result list, allowing you to selectively filter your searches.
|
|
|
Add Your Own Notes
|

Add personal notes and monthly growing notes to each plant entry
Along with specific entry descriptions, and cultivation information for each
genus, users can add growing notes for each month of the year for each plant in
the database.
Additionally, personal notes field allow users to further customise
each plant entry.
And now users can export these growing notes (along with personal notes) and
share them with other Botanica Plus users.
We encourage people to share their
growing notes and 'plant collections' by posting them to their web site, or
forwarding them to us at collections@gardeninfo.com. We'll place them on our web
site to share with all Botanica Plus users.

Garden Journal
|
|

Botanica Plus contains a journal to record all your growing and garden
activities. Make notes on planting, flowering, weather conditions and gardening
tasks. Review your activities from year to year.
You can even view your monthly
growing notes for all plants with entries in the displayed month.
You can back up your garden journal notes for safekeeping and sharing with other
Botanica Plus users in your area or hemisphere.

Create 'Garden Lists' of Your Favorite Plants
|

Create any number of lists of plant entries for easier access and garden
management.
Build plant lists for your ideal garden - for your area, or for a
particular type of garden - and share them with others. Put together lists for year-round displays, or any particular effect. You can export them and
send them to us at collections@gardeninfo.com and we'll post them for others to download.
Users can print out their lists, together with any monthly growing notes, and
even print labels for each list.
Here's a couple of lists you can download now -- one of cottage garden plants (Macintosh version or PC version), and another of tropical garden plants (Macintosh version or PC version). Each of these gives you a good selection of plants suitable for each type of garden. Of course, local conditions dictate what is suitable for your specific location.

Botanica Plus Collections
|
|
Botanica Plus users can share with others the plant entries they've added to the database.
Here's the way to prepare them for sharing:
1. Back-up the desired collection
Select 'Maintenance'
Select from the list of collections the one you wish to back up
Click once on 'Backup'
Save the backup file for the collection into the folder with the same name as the collection (found in the 'Botanica Plus/Pics' folder).
2. Compress the entire collection folder.
3. Share the compressed file with other users by emailing it to collections@gardeninfo.com.
